Bula - Bula is Captain of The Zula Patrol. As their fearless green leader, he affects an air of easy confidence. Inside he's a tightly wound ball of high energy and insatiable curiosity - with the heart of an intrepid explorer. He's the driving force behind The Patrol's embrace of their mission, whether they are responding to an emergency, or exploring the unknown. He is the consummate patient leader who encourages children to persevere in order to reach their goals.Bula is an optimist. Because he always sees the best in others, he teaches children to do the same...and to find joy in even the darkest of situations. He believes that sometimes a little bit of help can make a big difference. When faced with problems, he shows children how to work through them by negotiating and building consensus, rather than resorting to violence.Bula thinks of himself as the solid, mature and rational head of The Zula Patrol...and usually he is. However, even level-headed Bula can get into some pretty sticky and unusually hilarious situations! And in these times, as always, he reaches out for help to the rest of the Patrollers...teaching children that asking friends for help with problems is a good thing...friends can help solve problems!Bula often relies on his instincts, and in the long run his instincts are almost always right. He believes in himself, and in so doing teaches children to believe in themselves.
Zeeter - On duty, Zeeter is the pilot...a top-notch pilot. She's the best in the universe, and she knows it. Off duty she's the wildest, hot dogging space jockey in the Zulaverse!Zeeter's a no nonsense kind of girl - a doer. Because she believes that doing something is the best way to learn, she encourages children to seek out information through doing...promoting inquiry-based learning through trying out the solutions. With her boundless self-confidence, Zeeter tends to rush into things, trusting her knowledge and understanding of space science. In so doing, she models the need to explore one's practical knowledge and abilities about science. She encourages children to try new and different things through instinctive understanding of the issues. And because Zeeter's instincts are not always right, she demonstrates the importance of learning through trial and error.Zeeter also tends to think out loud...saying exactly what's on her mind, constantly challenging her thought processes and encouraging the rest of the Patrollers to do so too. This, she finds, is a great way to increase her knowledge of the world, and as it sometimes turns out, a very funny exchange of information!Because of her practical nature, Zeeter is always trying to 'improve' things with tools that she generates using her pride and joy: an atomic, titanium-plated 'universal implement fabricator.' In a pinch, her device just might produce what the Patrollers need to get out of a pickle - that Zeeter probably got them into!
Multo - Multo is a scientist, an intergalactic absent minded professor, whose head is spinning with data, facts, and figures, from years of reading and trying to make sense out of the whole universe.Multo is an avid reader...always reading one good book or another. Unlike Zeeter, who believes you must do in order to learn, Multo encourages inquiry-based learning through reading because he believes that answers to his questions and challenges lie in the knowledge contained in books. He loves bantering and bickering with Zeeter over bizarre theories...each trying to prove his or her approach to learning is the best!Multo is also analytical and thoughtful, constantly spouting convoluted theories and fascinating factoids. Reading, he believes, gives one the facts necessary for a fuller understanding of science and the world, and thereby gives the Patrol the necessary tools for getting out of trouble. And when trouble strikes, you can bet Multo will know about it...partly because he is obsessed with staying well informed...and partly because he may have inadvertently caused it!Multo is also a fun-loving scientist, and as such, he loves to read just for the pure pleasure of reading! One of his favorite pastimes is reading about gadgets. In fact, Multo can most often be found in his lab making gadgets and devices he has read about...ones that The Zula Patrol might need on an assignment. By modeling this do-as-you-read behavior, Multo encourages children to gain background knowledge first and then experiment about what they have read - sometimes to test their understanding of the issues they've read about, and sometimes to try something new and different just for fun! Of course the fly in the ointment is that you never know if his inventions will work - or when they'll work. But that doesn't stop Multo. He sticks with it until they do...because not always knowing the outcome is part of the fun of experimenting!
Gorga - Gorga is a happy, hyper, perpetual puppy with a definite soft spot for Bula, who rescued him from an abusive alien. And Gorga is not afraid to demonstrate his caring of and loyalty to Bula. In fact, he is master of the 'zerbert,' a super-slobbery kiss, which he enthusiastically plants on Bula at every opportunity.Despite his rambunctiousness, Gorga is a full member of The Zula Patrol team...although he is not always treated as such by members of the team who think of him as...well, as just a pet! On the contrary, he's observant and bright and, in fact, when danger strikes, Gorga can transform (like the Incredible Hulk) into Gor-Gantua; ten times his puppy size with a powerful slime-spraying snout. But, this transformation can only occur if no one else is around to see it! So, when Gorga saves the day, the other Patrollers don't have a clue that their salvation was at the paws of their lovable little pal! Some members of The Zula Patrol have a hunch that there's something more to Gorga than meets the eye...but they don't know what.Gorga doesn't mind not always getting credit for his good deeds. He does good things just for the sake of doing good things! He's also a perfect example, albeit four-legged, that you should not pre-judge someone's abilities - especially by their looks - because abilities are not always immediately apparent! And one other detail: Gorga likes to collect and store strange objects in his snout. And you never know what he'll sneeze out next - sometimes just as it's needed most!
Wizzy Wigg - Nothing slows down this cosmic pair; they travel at the speed of light! And don't let their size and cute looks fool you...they're quite resourceful. Their special talents are all about communication. They speak many different languages and their vocabularies are boundless. In fact, their favorite pastime is learning new vocabulary...you might even call them flying dictionaries. Although their delivery is sometimes wildly funny, their talents prove to be quite useful for helping the other Patrollers in difficult situations.Even though these impish creatures are always on each other's case with constant good-natured bantering, they always seem to find common ground...demonstrating to children that although friends do not always agree, disagreements can be resolved through communication. And we know (even if they don't) that they really couldn't do without each other.Because of Wizzy's and Wigg's speed and superb communication skills, they often scout out new territory or deliver messages. Not always the most glamorous jobs - but they do them because they are true team players. And, of course, because they love to explore! They often make discoveries that neither of them alone understands, but when shared with the rest of the Patrollers, can lead to a fuller understanding.Yes, Wizzy and Wigg have a real gift for communicating. And they're very good at it...as long as they're together. But they are such a team effort...so closely linked...that if separated, their communication skills deteriorate. Fast. This is a weakness that their enemies try to exploit, often with hilariously disastrous results for the bad guys.
Cloid - Cloid is Deliria's hapless lackey, a nervous robot with a British accent, who clunks as he rolls and is always in need of repair, with arms, feet, head, etc. falling off in mid-sentence. Cloid is a consummate worrier; he rarely trusts Deliria's schemes, but goes along because he is loyal to the end. However, when the going gets tough, Deliria will ditch Cloid in a heartbeat. If the Zula Patrol is about to catch up with them, Deliria will hide by shape-shifting, leaving poor Cloid to take the blame. And whenever something goes wrong for Deliria, which it inevitably does, she finds a way to blame Cloid. Inevitably this treatment of Cloid always catches up with Deliria - so that there is NO behavior that can be imitated. We don't want that BULLY mentality with her. Even with TRUDER, TRAXIE gets the last laugh on him a lot of the time.
Deliria - Deliria is the outer space Cruella DeVil - imperious, impatient, vain, completely self-centered, and the most powerful woman in the Solar System (also the richest, but we never refer to her money). Cloid is her hapless robot servant. They reside on Deliria's private asteroid, in a gothic mansion, high on a peak that overlooks an ominous assortment of Deliria's factories. All very Tim Burton.Deliria is motivated solely by greed. She wants everything, but will pay absolutely nothing to get it. She owns a vast empire of factories, resorts, mines - you name it, she owns it. The mere fact that her companies are responsible for the worst products in the solar system is of no concern to her. Her line of dangerous and/or defective consumer items include Sugar-Coated Fat-On-A-Stick, Bag-O-Broken-Bricks, Exploding Socks, etc. The only thing that worries Deliria is the Zula Patrol. And that's only because our heroes insist she obey laws, follow rules, respect the environment - things that she considers are for ordinary people (which is certainly not her). As a result, they are always in her hair, foiling her most delightfully devious plans, and butting in where they're not wanted. Deliria's asteroid even has rockets attached, so she can re-locate at a moment's notice. In addition to being important and powerful, Deliria is also a shape-shifter - not like X-Men's Mystique, but more like Plastic Man or the wife in 'The Incredibles' - with the ability to stretch her body like rubber or mold it into any object. She can form herself into a boat, a chair, etc. - but it always has her face. She uses that ability to sneak around, hide from, or spy on the Zula Patrol. Our good guys don't know that she's a shape-shifter, but Zeeter is highly suspicious as to how Deliria is always disappearing. However, Deliria is not a very good shape-shifter - whenever she assumes a different form, a part of her normal body will frequently remain. (As a bowling pin, her ear remains, or we'll see her nose stick out of a gumball dispenser.)When she's in one of her shape-shifted forms, Deliria has to be careful not to sneeze. No matter how hard it is, she's got to stifle her sneezes, because one 'achoo' causes her to revert to her normal self. Unfortunately for Deliria, dust or a rogue feather is often nearby. At Deliria's command are an army of robots that toil in her factories. But always at her side is Cloid, her one-robot butler, maid and chief bottle washer.
Dark Truder and Traxie - Dark Truder is a villain's villain. If there was a school for villains, Truder would be principal. He is incessantly masterminding plots to foil The Zula Patrol and frustrate their efforts to make the galaxy a better place in which to live. He's a little guy with a big appetite for power. His main problem, albeit good for The Zula Patrol, is that he doesn't take time to get all of the information he needs to succeed in his evil plans. And sometimes the information he does have is incorrect. He is a constant reminder to kids that you should really take the time to gather the information you need...and to make sure your information is correct...before you implement your plan.Perched on top of Dark Truder's shiny, bald head is Traxie. As Truder's conscience, she is always a bit leery of his nefarious plots. Truder often asks for Traxie's advice, but hardly ever listens...with disastrous effects! Truder and Traxie's relationship shows kids that sometimes you should listen to the advice of others.
